What is Peppol?

Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line) is the European network for structured electronic invoicing (e-invoicing). It allows sending digital invoices securely and directly from accounting system to accounting system - without PDFs, without manual processing.

Peppol uses the UBL(Universal Business Language) format for this purpose. This is an internationally standardized structure that allows invoice data - such as amounts, VAT, customer data and due dates - to be exchanged machine-readable and error-free between software packages. Thanks to UBL, invoices can be processed fully automatically, without manual intervention.

In Belgium, Peppol e-invoicing becomes mandatory for all B2B transactions between VAT-registered companies as of Jan. 1, 2026. Peppol is also already mandatory for government contracts today.

Benefits of e-invoicing

  1. Efficiency

E-invoicing reduces manual work and errors, making the entire invoicing process more efficient and saving up to 50% time in processing invoices.

  2. Speed

E-invoicing automates processes and allows for faster payments thanks to invoicing in near real-time.

  3. Fewer errors

E-invoicing significantly reduces errors in the billing process by eliminating manual data entry.

  4. Scalability

E-invoicing grows effortlessly with your business, without worrying about the number of invoices.

  5. Financial Overview

E-invoicing improves real-time tracking and reporting of invoices and enables automatic reminders, reducing late payments.

  6. Safety

E-invoices are exchanged over secure networks. This reduces the risk of fraud and lost invoices.

  7. Innovation & AI

E-invoicing uses AI and machine learning, among other things, for error detection and fraud prevention.

  8. Cost savings

E-invoicing saves costs in multiple areas: from printing and shipping to archiving. The result? Up to 64% lower costs.

What is a Peppol Access Point?

A Peppol Access Point is like a digital gateway to the international Peppol network. It ensures that e-invoices are sent and received safely, correctly and according to European standards - regardless of which system you work with. You need such an Access Point to communicate with governments and other companies via Peppol.
